"All Outta Marbles" - An All Outta Bubblegum horror hack

All Outta Marbles

A hack of All Outta Bubblegum, copyright 2001, Michael "Epoch" Sullivan and Jeffrey Grant. For use with horror games

Characters in All Outta Marbles have one stat -- Marbles. It's technically a number which varies from 0 through 10, though the designer highly recommends you don't use marbles as playtesting has shown that those tend to get lost, fast. Use a scrap of paper of poker chits or whatever, I'm not your mom.

Marbles always start at 10.

Resolution

Any action which does not fall under the broad category of "getting nuts" is resolved by rolling 2d6s. If the number rolled is equal to or less than the amount of marbles the character has left, then the character succeeds in his task.

Any action which falls under the broad umbrella of "getting nuts" is also resolved by rolling 2d6. However, in this case, you wish to roll greater than the amount of marbles that you have left.

Designer's note: "Getting nuts" covers every irrational, violent action a character might perform in a horror movie, ranging from jumping through a plate glass window to dodge a slasher all the way to replacing their hand with a chainsaw through the magic of 5-minute crafts.

Losing Marbles

Whenever you fail a roll relating to either "getting nuts" or doing anything else, you lose a Marble. You may also sacrifice a Marble before the roll to ensure success.

Marbles also rate your damage. If someone else succeeds in attacking you, you lose a marble.

Zero Marbles

When you lose your last marble, you have officially Gone Nuts. You may no longer attempt any kind of rational, non-nuts actions. Simple, rational options may elude you but you will be able to, say leap into hell and blow up a demon with a one-liner. You automatically succeed in any such activity, but roll 2d6 every time. If you roll doubles at this time, then you Die Horribly. The specifics are left to either the player or the storyteller but it can be as hillarious or tragic as you like. But you aren't going gently into that good night.

However, bear in mind that it's relatively easy to trap a zero-marbles person in a situation he's totally incapable of dealing with.

There ya go. Think up your own damn adventures and campaign settings. Also, have fun.
